FINAL EXTENSION OF MASK REQUIREMENT THROUGH OCTOBER 15, 2021

The Clark-Shawnee Board of Education met for its regular monthly board meeting and agreed to one last extension of the current mask requirement for students and staff through October 15, 2021.

We have been working hard to meet the educational and social needs of our students. We have seen a decrease in quarantines and positive cases since we returned from the Labor Day holiday with a masking requirement in place. In addition, local health officials are optimistic that we are beginning to see the signs of a downward trend in cases and hospitalizations in Clark County.

Based on this information, the Board of Education approved the extension along with provisions for how we will monitor and respond should cases of isolation and/or quarantine rise in our district. The timeline and plan elements are as follows:

  • The current mask requirement remains in effect through October 15, 2021.

  • Masking becomes a recommendation for students and staff beginning October 18, 2021.

  • In the event that 100 or more students are quarantined in one of our buildings, a temporary two-week mask requirement will be implemented for the impacted school in order to minimize additional quarantines.

We are grateful for the partnership of our families, teachers, support staff, and students through these first six weeks of school. Our recent efforts have helped to keep more students in the classrooms and participating in their extracurricular activities.

The Board of Education and Administration remain committed to providing students with as much in-person learning as possible this year. We will continue to keep you updated about our efforts and decisions about how we will navigate this at Clark-Shawnee Schools.
