Power of the Pen

May 12-13, 2022 Clark-Shawnee Middle Schoolers Sophie Lemon, Charlie Lemon, and Reese Chilcote competed at the 2022 State Power of the Pen Tournament at Otterbein University. The students were coached by Clark-Shawnee Teachers Terry Janssen and Darcy Leis.

There were over 180 schools represented at the 2022 state tournament. At the 7th and 8th grade levels, approximately 260 writers were invited to the state competition. Writers were invited based on their scores at district and regional competitions earlier in the school year.

"It was truly one of the most memorable State Tournaments to honor a huge host of creative writers," said Power of the Pen Co-Advisor Terry Janssen.

The guest author at the event was Jasmine Warga, Newbery Honor winning author and former Power of the Pen writer.

"She stopped and gave sincere and helpful advice to each writer she met," said Janssen.

Congratulations Sophie Lemon, Charlie Lemon, and Reese Chilcote!
