Clark-Shawnee Selects New Special Education Director

Mrs. Melissa Jewell

Clark-Shawnee Schools will welcome a new special education director to the administrative team this fall when experienced educator Mrs. Melissa Jewell steps into the role.

“Mrs. Jewell’s years of experience as an elementary teacher and intervention specialist and her passion for helping all students succeed will be an asset to the district as special education director,” said Superintendent Mr. Brian Kuhn. “As a Clark-Shawnee teacher, she has already developed relationships with many of our students and families and her familiarity with our district will give her a strong foundation to build on as she leads special education in our district.”

Mrs. Jewell is an Intervention Specialist at Possum School, a position she has held since 2016. Prior to that, she was a kindergarten teacher in Clark-Shawnee and Greenon Local Schools. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Kentucky Christian University, a Master’s degree in Special Education from Western Governors University and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Western Governors University.

As Special Education Director, Mrs. Jewell will work with students, educators and families to ensure that the unique needs of students with disabilities are met in their educational experiences at Clark-Shawnee Schools. She will replace Mr. Mike Shaw, who wanted to return to classroom teaching after serving in an administrative role in recent school years.
