UPDATED QUARANTINE PROCEDURES: Beginning February 22nd, our schools will begin implementing the updated quarantine guidelines provided by the Ohio Department of Health. Under these guidelines, we will continue contact tracing if we have a student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19. Individuals determined to be a close contact in traditional classroom settings and/or required school transportation will still be subject to the normal quarantine period, but will be allowed to come to school. Individuals considered a close contact in the cafeteria, physical education activities, and/or during extra-curricular activities will be subject to a normal quarantine period and will not be permitted to attend school.

As a district, we have worked all year to implement pragmatic strategies to prevent the spread of COVID-19. These strategies includes social distancing whenever possible, maintaining our routine cleaning and disinfection protocols, & adhering to the state masking guidelines for schools. We will continue with this approach and will follow recommendations from the CDC for social distancing of six feet and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation of placing student desks no less than three feet apart.

TRANSPORTATION REMINDER: Our Transportation Department mailed out postcards to students currently riding our school buses with updated pickup and drop-off times. IF YOU DID NOT RECEIVE A POSTCARD, PLEASE CALL THE TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT AT 937-328-5382 TO ENSURE YOUR CHILD IS INCLUDED ON OUR BUS ROUTES. If your child has not been riding a bus at all this year, they are not currently on our route sheets. Please know that these new routes will feel like the first day of school all over again. Allow for added time at the start and end of the day as drivers will be learning the new routes that combine our two groups of students.

FREE SCHOOL MEALS FOR ALL STUDENTS: Clark-Shawnee continues to offer free lunch and breakfast to all students in grades K-12 for the remainder of the school year through a statewide pandemic relief program. Under this policy, breakfasts and lunches served to ALL K-12 students will be at NO COST. Virtual Learning Academy students can preorder lunches for pickup. Students must take the minimum components for breakfast and lunch in order for the meals to be free. All students will be charged for a la carte purchases, just as they always have been.

LATCHKEY PROGRAM UPDATE: The latchkey program will remain suspended for the duration of the current school year. This program must sustain itself financially and due to decreased participation, the program has not been financially solvent. It is the intention of the district to resume latchkey operations at Shawnee Elementary School when we start school this coming fall.

Our BRAVE Return to School Plan is both exciting and challenging. We appreciate your flexibility and continued support as we work to keep our schools healthy and safe for students and staff as we prepare for increased in-person instruction.

Sincerely,

Mr. Brian Kuhn
Superintendent
Clark-Shawnee Local Schools
