District Update--November 23, 2021

SOUNDS OF THE SEASON UPDATE: The district’s annual holiday concert is returning to the Kuss Performing Arts Center this year! Join us on December 5, 2021 at 6:30 PM as we usher in the holiday season with performances from Shawnee ES choirs, Shawnee MS choirs & bands, as well as Shawnee HS choirs, bands, and orchestra. This event will be FREE to our families and community, however tickets are required.

  • Tickets--All tickets need to be picked up at the Clark-State Performing Arts Center (Kuss Auditorium) at 300 S Fountain Ave from the box office located in the main lobby. Please only request the number of tickets you plan to use. Handicapped seating will be reserved seating so let the box office know if  handicap seating is needed. You can select your tickets by calling the box office Monday through Friday (9AM-3PM) at 937-328-3874 or in person at the box office (hours are Tuesdays 1 pm to 4:30 pm and Thursdays 8 am to noon). Kuss updated the ticketing process for this event and you will select your seat(s) when you go to the box office to pick up your tickets.

  • Masks--To comply with Clark State College protocols, everyone in attendance is required to wear a mask upon arrival to the Performing Arts Center. Students must wear a mask when not on stage. When performing, a student may choose to remove their mask, but will need to put it on after performing. This is a Clark State College protocol to which we must adhere while using their facility.

MASK TO STAY, TEST TO PLAY: The district has been able to significantly reduce the number of students quarantined based on the implementation of the “Mask to Stay, Test to Play” guidelines. We will continue to adhere to these Ohio Department of Health guidelines and closely monitor our district data when making important decisions about school operations.

WINTER WEATHER PREPARATIONS: As the fall season approaches winter, we know that weather in Ohio can be unpredictable. Here are a few tips to prepare for inclement weather.

  • Be prepared for two-hour delays. Ensure you have plans for childcare and/or transportation. Visit the district’s website for the two-hour delay schedule by clicking here.

  • Double check Final Forms to be sure your phone numbers are up-to-date in the district’s communications system so that you receive calls, emails, and text messages related to delays and cancellations.

  • As temperatures get colder, please dress your child appropriately for school. Elementary grade levels will continue to hold outside recess when temperatures are above freezing and weather conditions permit.

SCHOOL ZONE REMINDER: Please remember that the speed limit in the school zone is 20 mph during designated hours. At the present time, there are no school zone flashing lights when traveling eastbound on E. Possum Road because they are on order. We want to be sure our buses, parents, and student drivers are all safe each morning and afternoon.

CALENDAR REMINDERS: Here are a few upcoming calendar reminders.
