Clark-Shawnee Graduate Drafted by the Minnesota Twins

Ben Ross Drafted

The Minnesota Twins drafted Clark-Shawnee Alum Ben Ross on July 18, 2022, in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft. Ross was the 144th player selected.

This summer, Ross is playing for the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters hitting .421 with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs in 42 games. Shortly after being drafted, he gave an interview to WSAW in Wisconsin.

“Everybody was a little nervous, especially my family,” Ross said. “I was lucky to be with them when I got the call. It was great to share a moment like that with them because they’ve been there since the beginning, and I get a lot of support from them, which is great. I’m happy it worked out. It’s exciting.”

Ross graduated from Clark-Shawnee High School in 2019. As a senior, he hit .466 with 21 RBIs. During his time with the Braves Ross was named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Area, and First Team All-County in baseball. He also received All-Conference and All-Area honors in soccer.

“Ben is a great kid, a hard worker, and always positive,” said Clark-Shawnee Athletic Director Steve Tincher. “It is an exciting time for him to be drafted and I am looking forward to watching him progress in the Twins organization. He is adding to the legacy of Clark-Shawnee Athletics.”

After graduation from Clark-Shawnee, Ross attended Notre Dame College in Euclid, Ohio where he played Shortstop for the Falcons. He ended his 2022 season with a .392 batting average, 1.199 OPS, .747 slugging percentage, .452 on-base percentage, 73 hits, 20 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 60 RBIs, 139 total bases, and 53 runs scored.

Following his 2022 season at Notre Dame, he was recognized as First Team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings (ABCA). In 2021, Ross was awarded All-Atlantic Region First Team and All-America Second Team honors while playing with the Falcons.

Ross is the “first two-time All-American in program history and the second player to achieve the feat in Mountain East Conference history,” according to Notre Dame Athletics. “He broke several single-season records including hits, RBIs, home runs, runs scored, total bases, intentional walks, and sacrifice flies, while tying his own record for doubles."

During the summer of 2021, Ross played for Springfield Champion City Kings and set a new single-season record for his hometown team with 83 hits on the season.

Ross will join Clark-Shawnee Alumn Seth Grey who was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the fourth round of the 2019 MLB draft.
