Clark-Shawnee Earns 4.5 Stars on the State Report Card

The Clark-Shawnee Local School District is extremely proud of the 4.5 star rating it received on the 2024-2025 report card. This rating is a reflection of our incomparable teaching staff and our amazing support staff who show up every day to make a positive impact on the lives of our students. Clark-Shawnee increased its star rating and the number of indicators met which is a testament to the amazing instruction taking place in our classrooms from Preschool to twelfth grade. Our school community has much to be proud of as Clark-Shawnee Local carries out our commitment to delivering a high-quality, student-centered education for all learners.

Finding out that Clark-Shawnee received a 4.5-Star rating from the State of Ohio was a proud moment for our staff, students, and community. At the start of the 2024 school year, the Clark-Shawnee Board of Education challenged our administration team to “continue to set the bar high.” Thanks to the dedication of our administrators, educators, and support staff, we rose to the challenge.

Every year, our teams work tirelessly—developing schedules, evaluating new curriculum, setting expectations, and preparing meaningful professional development for staff. Earning a 4.5-Star rating and placing in the top 25% of all schools in Ohio is a clear reflection of these efforts. After countless hours of hard work, data analysis, curriculum changes, and professional learning, we can proudly say, “We did it!” It’s a great time to be a BRAVE!

If we were to highlight just two areas of the State Report Card, we would focus on Early Literacy and Gap Closing. At the beginning of the 2024–25 school year, our staff built a data-driven plan to set clear learning goals for students of all learning styles. With the adoption of a new K–6 ELA curriculum, impactful professional development, strong teacher commitment, and parental support, we achieved; 100% 4th Grade promotion rate, 41% increase in our Improving Literacy Percent and a County high 77.4% proficiency in 3rd Grade Reading.

In the Gap Closing component, we improved from a 3-Star rating last year to a 5-Star rating this year, with a major focus on ELA, Mathematics, and reducing Chronic Absenteeism. Our new ELA and Math curriculum has strengthened student achievement, but it was our region-leading improvement in Chronic Absenteeism that truly set us apart.

No matter how strong the teaching, improvement is nearly impossible without consistent attendance. Through new attendance programs, careful data tracking, positive reinforcement, privileged trips and activities, and—most importantly—building a safe learning environment based on trust, respect, and clear expectations, Clark-Shawnee has made remarkable progress.

We could not be more proud of our staff, students, and community for their hard work and commitment. Together, we have raised the bar and will continue to set challenging goals and work hard to achieve them.
