Clark-Shawnee Welcomes New High School Principal

Clark-Shawnee Local School District welcomes Mr. John Stekli as the new High School Principal of grades ninth through twelfth at Shawnee High School beginning this fall. The Clark-Shawnee Board of Education approved the recommendation to hire Stekli at their July 8, 2024 board meeting.

Stekli brings 32 years of educational experience to the position with 21 years in administration and 11 years in the classroom.

“We are thrilled to welcome Mr. John Stekli and the administrative experience he brings to the leadership team at Shawnee High School,” stated Mr. Brian Kuhn, Clark-Shawnee Superintendent. “Mr. Stekli’s two decades of experience in school administration will help him to lead our high school students and staff in our continued pursuit of excellence in academics, athletics, the arts, and more.”

Stekli began his professional career in 1992 as a mathematics educator at Dayton Public Schools, where he taught for three years before moving to New Lebanon Local Schools. In 2002, he transitioned into administration, assuming roles as assistant principal and athletic director at New Lebanon. After a brief return to teaching at Bethel Local School, he joined Sidney City Schools in 2005 as High School Assistant Principal, later taking on the role of Middle School Principal.

Stekli transitioned to Northmont City Schools as Middle School Principal in 2011 where he served for three years. In 2014, he accepted the Interim Superintendent position at Bradford Schools followed by Middle School Principal at Xenia Community Schools.

He joined Fairlawn Local Schools in 2016 where he has been for eight years. Initially serving as Elementary and Middle School Principal, Stekli assumed the dual role of High School and Middle School Principal in 2017 where he has served prior to joining Clark-Shawnee.

In addition to his extensive experience, Stekli has been actively involved in various state leadership committees under the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA), including Safety, Legislative, and the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA).  In 2020, Stekli was awarded the Outstanding Administrator Award by the South West District Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA).

“I'm excited and honored to be the new Shawnee High School principal,” said Stekli. “I am proud to be a part of the continuing tradition at Clark-Shawnee and look forward to working with the dedicated staff, engaging with students, and connecting with our community. Go Braves!"

Stekli earned his Bachelor of Science in Education and a Master of Education from Wright State University. He holds a high school 7-12 teaching license, 7-12 Principal License, an Assistant Superintendent License, and a Superintendent License.

Mr. John Stekli will fill the position vacated by Mr. Chad Mossing, who has taken a leadership position with the Springfield-Clark CTC. Stekli joins the Shawnee Middle and High School Administrative team alongside Campus Principal Mrs. Michelle Heims, Middle School Principal Mr. Devin Spitzer, and Athletic Director Mr. Steve Tincher.
