Peacekeeper Award: Maura Simpson

Clark State College honored Maura Simpson, Shawnee High School Class of 2025, and nine other local high school students with their annual Peacekeeper Award at Springfield's annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.

The Peacekeeper Award honors high school seniors who reflect the values, vision, and enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award recipients demonstrate a commitment to diversity and inclusion, display strong leadership abilities in resolving conflicts, and foster teamwork.

“Each day, these students, our future leaders, exemplify compassion by working to promote unity, equality and positive change within their communities,” said Khalil Scott, Clark State academic advisor and event committee member. “Their actions inspire us all and show that each of us has the power to make a difference.”

Students accepted their awards during the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Luncheon and Awards Ceremony on Friday, January 17, 2025. 

Maura Simpson, a senior at Shawnee High School, is a student leader in both National Honor Society and Student Council. After graduation she plans to major in exercise science and minor in sports communication.
