Shawnee MS/HS earns "Momentum Award" from the State

Clark-Shawnee Local School District is proud to share that Shawnee MS/HS was recognized by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW) with the “Momentum Award”. Shawnee is the only Middle School or High School in Clark County to receive this recognition.

Clark-Shawnee Superintendent Brian Kuhn stated, “The Momentum Award from the State of Ohio is a true reflection of the amazing educational experience offered at Clark-Shawnee. The academic growth students demonstrated is a direct result of the efforts of all our teachers and staff. We are so proud of our students and their continued academic success.”

This recognition is given to school buildings that are not only performing well but are continuing to improve at a strong and steady pace. To earn this award, a building has to raise its overall performance score compared to the previous year while also demonstrating student academic growth.

According to ODEW’s website, “The momentum award is for districts and buildings that have demonstrated outstanding improvement in achievement while also continuing to show growth. The momentum award is for districts and buildings that have improved their performance index by 3 or more points from 2023-2024 report card to the 2024-2025 report card AND received a value-added progress rating of 4 or more stars.”

During the 2024-2025 school year, 20 districts and 238 buildings met the criteria for the State of Ohio Momentum Award.

Shawnee MS/HS moved from a performance index of 86.172 during the 2023-2024 school year to 91.622 for the 2024-2025 school year. This rating measures the test results for each student. The higher the performance on the state test, the more points are awarded toward the index score.

For the 2024-2025 school year, Shawnee MS/HS earned 4 stars on the Progress rating component. This evaluates the academic growth to determine if it met or exceeded the state’s expectations. The four stars indicate that the school exceeded the growth expectations.

Clark-Shawnee staff have worked hard to create a learning environment where students are encouraged to grow academically, socially, and personally. This award reflects their dedication to delivering a high-quality, student-centered education for all learners.
