“Sometimes you use words for positive actions; sometimes you use bricks!”

“Sometimes you use words for positive actions; sometimes you use bricks!”

One year later, the Butterfly Garden and Memory Walk continues to be a favorite topic of conversation throughout the Clark-Shawnee community. Since the sale opened in December, bricks have been purchased to celebrate graduations and special occasions, honor those who have passed, thank loved ones who have made an impact, and remember the history of our community.

The deadline to purchase a brick for the Memory Walk is March 31, 2023.

Judy Campbell Crisler has a strong family legacy in the Clark-Shawnee District. Her two sons, three stepsons, and four grandchildren are all graduates of Shawnee High School. When she heard about the opportunity to add her family legacy to the Memory Walk, she did not wait.

“Sometimes you use words for positive actions; sometimes you use bricks!” said Crisler. Crisler was excited to purchase a brick and looks forward to seeing it displayed in the Memory Walk for years to come.

These 4” by 8” logo bricks can be personalized with up to three lines of text to honor, celebrate, thank, or remember a loved one, family, organization, special occasion, and more. You may also choose to add clip art representing Possum, Reid, Rockway, Clark-Shawnee, a butterfly, or a heart.

Sue DeVoe Allen, purchased a brick to honor the legacy of her late husband, Dave Allen.

“Dave was in the first graduating class of Shawnee,” explained Allen. “Our family now has three generations who have been educated there. We honor the Shawnee family.”

Located behind the district’s administrative office, the new Clark-Shawnee Butterfly Garden and Memory Walk serves as a lasting reminder and celebration of Clark-Shawnee’s past, present, and future.

Bricks are $75 and will be available for purchase online through March 31, 2023, or while supplies last. All proceeds from the brick sale will fund the Butterfly Garden and Memory Walk along with commemorative plaques for Possum, Reid, Rockway, and Shawnee High School and Middle School.

This garden was made possible through a partnership with Natures Own, a local landscaping, design, and installation company. The commemorative plaques will be placed along the walk to bring history onto Clark-Shawnee’s campus. Bases for these plaques were fabricated by Shawnee and CTC senior, Colton Roberts.
