March 12, 2020 School Closure Announcement

Dear Clark-Shawnee Families,

Clark-Shawnee Local Schools will be closed for three weeks [March 17-April 3, 2020] in accordance with Governor Mike DeWine’s announcement this afternoon.

Friday, March 13th and Monday March 16th will be normal school days for all students. We recommend that students take home any personal belongings they may need at the end of the day on Friday in the event there are any new directives over the weekend. If your child has medication at school, please contact the school nurse to make arrangements to pick up medications that you may need during this time. School nurses will be available during their regular hours on Friday and Monday.

We are waiting for more guidance from the Governor’s office and the Ohio Department of Education. We will share details about this as more information becomes available.

In addition to closing school, we are cancelling, effective immediately, all events beginning tomorrow, Friday, March 13, 2020, through Friday, April 3, 2020. If events can be rescheduled, we will share information as those details become available. All athletics are being suspended effective Friday, March 13, 2020 — this includes all practices and contests.

Clark-Shawnee Local makes use of “Blizzard Bags” for three additional calamity days as outlined on the district calendar. These “Blizzard Bags,” or instructions for electronic learning, will be provided to students on Monday, March 16th. Questions regarding “Blizzard Bags” should be directed to your child’s building.

We know that this is new territory for all of us and a very challenging and stressful time. Your children are safe at school. This is a proactive and preventative step the Governor is taking to slow the spread of illness in our communities. We care about your children, your family, and your child’s education, and will continue to work hard to provide a safe, healthy learning environment for all Clark-Shawnee students. This is a time where I am asking our students, staff, families, and community to be Shawnee Brave.

We are grateful for your patience and support as we work through this complex and rapidly changing issue.

Sincerely,

Brian Kuhn

Superintendent

Clark-Shawnee Local
