GIFTED SERVICES

Clark-Shawnee's gifted program seeks to meet the needs of all students.  The district has two ways to identify gifted students:

Gifted students can be identified through whole-grade screenings.

Gifted students can be identified by a referral made by a parent, teacher, peer, or community member. To refer a student, please reach out to our Gifted Coordinator, John Campbell.

As a district, we offer a variety of programs and services both within and outside of the traditional classroom to challenge the abilities of our students and meet their unique learning needs.

Inclusion: Gifted Intervention Specialists work alongside the classroom teacher to provide extension, depth, and complexity to assignments.

Specialized: Students may work on assignments in more depth outside of their regular classroom to explore STEM activities, meet social and emotional needs, and identify additional projects of interest to the student.

Enrichment Days: Students identified in Reading, Math, and Superior Cognitive ability will participate in full pull-out days hosted off campus.

College Credit Plus and Advanced Classes:  Shawnee offers advanced, honors, and college-level courses to allow students to earn college credit while in high school.

The Butterfly Garden and Memory Walk project began when third-grade Gifted students at Shawnee Elementary wanted to positively impact the district now and in the years to come.

Students researched the positive effects of butterfly gardens along with the best locations, plants, and butterfly species to attract. The project continued to grow as students and staff sought ways to commemorate the history of Clark-Shawnee’s previous elementary schools.
